First Bath

Well, after one week in this world, Kensie was ready for a bath. Her umbilical cord fell off during her pediatrician appointment on August 4th. It was fortunate that Mimi was here for a visit, since I had no idea how to bathe a baby. I had the tub and the tiny wash cloths and a variety of baby washing products... but was unsure how to make it all work. See poor cold Kensie below in her fancy baby tub!

After watching me try to bring warm water up to my chilly baby for a few minutes, Mimi said to just hold her over the sink and wash her there with the water running on her head. Who would have thought that would be so easy!

When it was all done, Kensie thoroughly enjoyed being all bundled up in her towel. In fact, she was so cute after her bath, that I think we will give her another one today! Love, Jess

Kensie meets Mimi and Grandpa

Kensie met her Mimi and Grandpa this weekend! They were absolutely smitten with her good looks and charm, which was to be expected.

Kensie did require quite a bit of attention the first night of the visit. It was as though she knew that mom and dad wanted to have fun and she wasn't having any of it. So, Chris and I took turns calming her -- using our extensive parenting skills, accumulated in the past 6 days. She finally settled down around 11pm, after 2 hours of fussing and such. Not bad, eh? Kensie's visitors

Kensie had her first visitors at home on Thursday. Michelle, Valerie, Jodi, and Kelly all came bearing gifts and love! Each one took a turn holding the little munchkin, and thank god -- she was in a good mood! Sleeping most of the time and letting everyone snuggle and rub her baby soft skin.

Here is Michelle holding Kensie. Michelle is in school to be a doctor, so she was able to provide technical explanations, as I regaled the group with the "story of my labor."


Here is Valerie holding Kensie. Val has already jump-started Kensie's fashionista wardrobe by giving her an oh-so-cute Juicy Couture hoodie and pants set!

Here is Jodi holding Kensie. Kensie got her sea legs while in my belly on Jodi's boat this summer. Wonder when her first boat trip as a human will be??

And here is Kelly holding Kensie. Thanks, Kelly, for the adorable outfits and PINK Longaberger basket! I don't think we will ever have to wear an outfit twice, due to the generous nature of all of our friends and family!

On Friday I had to take an unplanned trip to the doctor's office, and Jenn was able to come over and watch Kensie! Thank you, Jenn! It is so good to have friends willing to help out in a pinch.

Kensie Isla Meyers arrives!

Team Meyers now has three members... Chris, Jessica, and Kensie.

Here's the story, for those who are interested in the long version. On Saturday we decided to have our friends, Jen and Justin over for meatloaf. For some reason I was craving meatloaf! Anyway, by 2pm, when I was making said meatloaf, my "practice" contractions started feeling a whole lot like the real thing! But, dinner was planned, and darn it, I was going to have everything ready... even if I had to stop every ten minutes to endure 30 seconds of pain. By 7pm J&J were here and the loaf was almost done... and so was I! Chris and I left for the hospital and checked ourselves in. I was already 5cm...

We really thought Kensie was going to be an "easy" delivery, because within another 3o minutes I was at 8cm. I got my epidural and things seemed to be progressing so fast! Our nurse was hoping to meet the little girl before her shift ended at 11:30. But alas, Kensie had turned herself over and was "sunny side up" as they call it. Which is NOT easy to deliver. I tried my best, but she was not coming out easily after all. We prepped for a c-section, but the doctor said we could try one more thing first... forceps and some major pushing action! Anyway, I asked if I could have a glass of water if I delivered by c-section, and the doc said the only way I was getting a drink (of water, or anything!) was if I got her out the old fashioned way. So, dreaming of a cold diet coke, I pushed my little heart out and Kensie arived. A little beat up, but all in one piece. What a trooper!

She weighed 7 pounds 14 ounces. Was 20.5 inches long. And came at 4:44am on July 27, 2008. As you can see she has lots of hair! And her eyes are blue -- apparently the color blue that nurses think will stay blue for good.

The one big hitch in the situation is she has jaundice -- the kind that is noticable right away and is caused by having A+ blood, while I have O+. So, she was set up with a billi light system in our room pretty quickly. It looks like a tanning bed. Chris and I spent a lot of time making remarks about her goggles and giveing her weird nicknames. I think she looked most like mothman from The Tick! What can I say, but .... Spoon!!

On Tuesday we all came home. Kensie wore her special "coming home outfit" that I packed, not that anyone really saw it! Here's a picture, to prove she did indeed have a little white dress on and is quite a cute little girl... albeit a tad orange.

Big as a house!

Well, it's 2 weeks until my due date so I wanted to get a few last prego pictures for the scrapbook. As you can see below, I am somewhat surprised to see just how large I have become! But, I guess it is for a good cause. C'mon baby girl, time to come out of mama's belly!
